Behind the Scenes: A New Mixed Media Project in Progress

There’s something magical about the very beginning of a creative process – when the paper is still fresh, and the first washes of color begin to take shape. That’s the stage I’m in now, working on a brand new mixed media artwork featuring a raven – one of my favorite birds to draw.

I started with light watercolor washes and a touch of water to build soft shadows and structure. It’s a way of getting to know the subject – observing, reacting, and allowing space for surprises. I love this part: when the image is still fluid and undefined, full of possibilities.

This piece is being created on high-quality watercolor paper and will later include additional materials like ink, colored pencils, and possibly metallic accents. Each step brings something new – new textures, new rhythm, new ideas.

As with all my works, this is an original handmade illustration, not a print. It’s a slow, intuitive process that I absolutely enjoy – letting the image evolve, layer by layer, until it becomes what it’s meant to be.

I can’t wait to share the finished version soon. For now, here’s a little peek from my studio 💙
